Goose Hummock, Cape Cod’s largest outdoor outfitter in Orleans, MA, has made the kayak component of the Against the Tide event in Brewster, MA possible for many years. Michael MacAskill, previous owner of Goose Hummock and faithful MBCC supporter, is once again on the kayak tradition with the new owners of Goose Hummock.
Michael MacAskill has been an MBCC hero since the inception of the Against the Tide event on the Cape. Despite the fact he had little time to spare, Michael has continuously advocated for breast cancer prevention and given of himself and his supplies for MBCC. This year, he is continuing to support us as well as taking on the role of volunteering in the kayak component of the event. Michael is working hand in hand with the new owners of Goose Hummock, the Howarth family (Phil, Jan, Jake, Jess), who just moved here from the UK. The Howarth’s gave the “MBCC event a big thumbs up and did not want to change the tradition of supporting such a worthy cause,” says MacAskill.
MacAskill is a key example of the kind of support that has kept the annual Against the Tide events alive and strong for so many years as he explains, “It’s a cause I believe in and I simply give a little bit of time for a great cause. We need to stop all of the family pain. It’s not a fight we want for our children.”
As in years past, MBCC will be presenting Michael with an award of appreciation. His passion and generosity deserve to be celebrated. MBCC cannot thank Goose Hummock and Michael enough for their dedication to breast cancer prevention and the Against the Tide event.
