Sturbridge resident, Cheryl Reeve, is a statewide chairwoman for the second year in a row for the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition’s Against the Tide events in 2014.
The Against the Tide events allow participants to swim, walk, run, and/or kayak for breast cancer prevention. The 22nd annual Metro-Boston Against the Tide will be held at DCR’s Hopkinton State Park in Hopkinton on June 21st. The 15th annual Cape Cod Against the Tide will be held at DCR’s Nickerson State Park on August 16th.
Cheryl’s husband, Fritz, and son, Daniel, will be joining her in Hopkinton on June 21st. For the second year in a row Daniel will be participating in the 5k run and the 2-mile kayak portion of Against the Tide.
“MBCC helps educate people on the steps we can take—and the steps our sisters and mothers can take—to reduce our exposure to chemicals linked to cancer,” says Reeve. “I am excited to be a statewide chairwoman and to participate in the Against the Tide events again this year.”
“We are honored that Cheryl has agreed to be a statewide chairwoman for the Against the Tide events once again in 2014,” says Cheryl Osimo, Executive Director of MBCC. “Her dedication and support toward our goal of breast cancer prevention is truly inspirational.”
Reeve, who trains horses and teaches dressage, jumping, vaulting, and eventing at her Sturbridge Farm has created the “Sturbridge Farm Equestrians Team” for the Against the Tide events. To make a pledge toward Cheryl, or to join her team, please visit: http://www.firstgiving.com/team/269063 .
Currently, MBCC is the only breast cancer organization, locally or nationally, that focuses on breast cancer prevention. The statewide Against the Tide events generate funds towards this goal and MBCC’s work in community education, research advocacy, and public policy change. The morning events consist of a 1-mile swim, 2-mile kayak, 3-mile walk, 5K run, and/or 10K run. Participants may choose one or more of the activities in any combination. There will also be a “Splash and Dash” Aquathlon option where participants first “splash” in the competitive 1-mile swim and then, “dash” in the competitive 5K or 10K run. Each year, this family-friendly event brings individuals from all demographics and all abilities together with one goal in mind: breast cancer prevention.
MBCC is inviting people throughout Massachusetts to register for one or both of the events at www.mbcc.org/swim or by calling 617-376-6222. Those who cannot attend are invited to make a pledge to a registered participant or existing team at www.firstgiving.com/mbcc.
