On a crisp January afternoon, Executive Director Cheryl Osimo and Board Member Steve D’Amico traveled to Providence, RI to meet with staff from one the newest sponsors of Against the Tide, Women & Infants.
Women & Infants, a Care New England Hospital, is unique as one of the nation’s leading specialty hospitals for women and newborns. Its Program in Women’s Oncology is widely recognized as one of the leading centers for the research, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer in women.
Cheryl says, “What drew my attention to Women & Infants was their commitment to prevention and their recognition of the significance of environmental factors in cancer. I gave them a call, explained our mission, and they agreed right away to become a sponsor.”
Women & Infants Program Director, Dr. Skip Granai, escorted Cheryl and Steve on a tour of the newly redesigned flagship facility. In addition to state-of-the-art infusion facilities, it houses a collection of Integrative Care Programs to augment primary treatment and improve the overall quality-of-life for patients. These include acupuncture, massage, natural skin care, meditation, guided imagery, nutrition, nia movement, reiki, yoga, an animal companion program, and more. Physical and occupational therapy services are also available to help patients return to life after treatment.
“I was quite impressed,” said Steve. “Women & Infants offers world class, patient centered care that treats the whole person, not just the illness. With satellite facilities in Fall River and Hyannis, and transportation readily available to and from the main campus in Providence, it is easily accessible to women thought southeastern Massachusetts.”
The entire staff and Board of Directors of MBCC is excited about this new partnership and looks forward to a long, mutually rewarding relationship with Women & Infants.
