Event Activities & Schedule

With the health and well-being of our participants, volunteers, and sponsors in mind, Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) has decided to offer virtual events on June 20th and August 15th and to reschedule the Metro-Boston Against the Tide in-person event in Hopkinton from June 20th to September 19th, and to reschedule the Cape Code Against the Tide in-person event in Brewster from August 15th to September 26th.

The Event Schedule below is for the September in-person events. Both of the in-person events will also include virtual options, providing our participants with four opportunities to participate virtually, as well as two in-person events, if it is safe to do so.

Participate in up to 4 of the activities, depending on start times:

Swim

Our swim event consists of your choice of either a 1-mile competitive or  1/2 mile and 1-mile recreational heats. Swimmers have the option of doing just the swim or doing the Aquathon and transitioning into the 5K or 10K run directly after the competitive swim. New for 2020, Against the Tide will also feature a 1-mile USMS sanctioned swim. All swimmers will be in proximity to a safety kayak should the need for help arise. All swim events are chip-timed. It is important that you check in with our event officials managing these clocks in order to ensure that they have captured your time.

Run

Our USATF certified 5K and 10K runs in both Hopkinton and Brewster are chip-timed. These runs take place on stroller- and wheelchair-friendly paved roadways within each of the state parks. The routes are clearly marked.

Fitness Walk

Our 3-mile walk in both Hopkinton and Brewster is held on paved, stroller- and wheelchair-friendly roadways within each of the state parks.

Paddleboard

Paddleboards are made available to our participants by our generous sponsors. Boating in Boston is our Hopkinton paddleboard sponsor and Goose Hummock is our Cape Cod paddleboard sponsor. Paddleboard participants will need to reserve a board in advance during registration.

Kayak

Kayaks are made available to our participants by our generous sponsors (Boating in Boston for Hopkinton and Goose Hummock for the Cape). This is a very popular event and to ensure that there are enough kayaks for those interested, kayak participants will need to reserve a kayak in advance during registration.  We encourage anyone who has their own kayak to bring it for their own use.
