MASSACHUSETTS BREAST CANCER COALITION’S ANNUAL STATEWIDE AGAINST THE TIDE ATHLETIC FUNDRAISING EVENTS
Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) will hold its annual Against the Tide athletic fundraising events in 2022. MBCC will hold two in-person events: one on June 18th at DCR’s Hopkinton State Park in Hopkinton, MA for the 30th year and one on August 13th at DCR’s Nickerson State Park in Brewster, MA for the 23rd year. Additionally, MBCC will host two virtual events each with an 8-day participation window: Against the Tide June Virtual Event – June 11th – 18th and Against the Tide August Virtual Event – August 6th – 13th. Proceeds benefit MBCC, the state’s leading breast cancer organization dedicated to preventing the environmental causes of breast cancer through community education, research advocacy, and changes to public policy.
Since 2014, Dr. Binh Nguyen of Cedar Chiropractic & Sports, located in Hopkinton, has generously donated his time on the beach at MBCC’s Hopkinton events, offering free chiropractic service to event participants until 2020, when the event went virtual due to COVID-19. Dr. Nguyen is a strong believer in treating patients holistically, “Excellent patient care is more than just making the pain disappear. It is about learning, understanding and taking care of your body to improve your quality of life. I believe holistic treatment and prevention go hand in hand – prevention is a large part of my practice. That is why I love MBCC’s work! I council my patients on prevention against injuries and illness down the road, including cancers. I believe that clean water, organic foods, and the environment all have an impact on our health.”
Dr. Nguyen specializes in chiropractic sports medicine and has served as a medical staff member at numerous athletic events including the 2010 New York Half Marathon, the 2013 Toughman Half Triathlon, and the 2014 Reebok Crossfit Games Northeast Regionals. Currently, Dr. Nguyen is the official team Chiropractic Physician for the Worcester County Wildcats Football team and volunteers his time as a member of the medical staff to treat injured athletes. Cedar Chiropractic & Sports under the ownership of Dr. Nguyen has received many local awards including: Reader’s Choice Awards for #1 Choice for Hopkinton Chiropractor in 2014, 2015, and 2018; the Reader’s Choice Regional Favorites Gold Award: Chiropractor in the Western Massachusetts in 2014 and 2018; and the Reader’s Choice Regional Favorites Silver Award: Chiropractor in Western Massachusetts in 2015. On June 15th, 2019, Dr. Nguyen received another award, this time from MBCC, for his ongoing support and dedication to Against the Tide and Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition’s mission.

Against the Tide is a family-friendly and inspirational event that brings people from all demographics together with one goal in mind: breast cancer prevention. The in-person events will feature 1-mile recreational or competitive swims, ½-mile recreational swim, 5K or 10K runs, 3-mile walk, and a 1-mile USMS sanctioned swim. The virtual event components include 1-mile recreational or competitive swims, ½-mile recreational swim, 5K or 10K runs, and a 3-mile walk.
MBCC is inviting people throughout Massachusetts to register at www.mbcc.org/swim or by calling 1-800-649-MBCC (6222). Registration is $40 for an individual participant, and $100 for a family registration (up to 5 members). Those who cannot attend are encouraged to make a pledge to a registered participant or team. We encourage all participants to fundraise beyond the registration minimum, as all proceeds support Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition. All participants will receive an event t-shirt and participant medal. Prizes will be awarded for the top swim and run finishers at the in-person event.
