Our hearts are heavy, for the world has lost a great man, our dear friend Pete Devereaux. Pete proudly and bravely served his country as a United States Marine, but his most demanding challenge came when he was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Not genetically predisposed to develop the disease, Pete and thousands of other Marines had been exposed to contaminated water during their training at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Pete not only faced his diagnosis head-on, but he also became an advocate for breast cancer prevention. After a long battle with breast cancer and years of tireless advocacy, Peter passed away surrounded by his dedicated family. Pete inspires us, and we were honored to know him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Peter C. Devereaux Fund, TD Bank North, 451 Andover Street, North Andover, MA 01845.
