Dr. Linda Malkas is the Associate Chair and a professor in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, where she co-founded and continues to co-lead the Molecular Oncology Program since 2011. Previously a Professor of Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine, she co-founded and co-led the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center’s Breast Cancer Research Program and established the Signature Center for Breast Cancer Research. She has published over 75 peer-reviewed articles, presented at numerous national and international meetings, served on NIH and DOD study sections, is on the Editorial Boards of Cancer Research and Cancer Prevention Research, has been on the DOD Ovarian Cancer Research Program Integration Panel since 2011, serves as an external advisor for multiple cancer centers, holds over 23 U.S. and international patents, and has received numerous awards.

Barbara Malkas, Ed.D, MBCC Board President, was superintendent of North Adams Public Schools from 2016 to 2025 after serving as superintendent of Webster Public Schools for four years. As a science educator, administrator, and woman who has faced breast cancer, she feels strongly that learning about carcinogenic environmental factors impacting health is a civic responsibility. She has played an integral role as a consultant on the development of MBCC’s Let’s Talk Prevention: Actions You Can Take program. Dr. Malkas has earned numerous awards and recognitions, including the 2025 Dr. Christos Daoulas Award, the Dr. Bobbie D’Alessandro Leadership Award at the 2025 WELN Conference, and the Massachusetts Superintendent of the Year in 2024.
