This October, Make Prevention Part of the Conversation

Dear Friends in Prevention,

Each October, the nation turns its attention to breast cancer awareness. At Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC), we believe that awareness must mean more than early diagnosis and treatment of the disease — it must also mean asking how we can prevent it.

That is why, at MBCC, we consider October to be Breast Cancer Prevention Month.

For 35 years, MBCC has been dedicated to preventing environmental causes of breast cancer through community education, research advocacy, and changes to public policy. We believe prevention deserves more focus in the breast cancer conversation, and that protecting future generations requires action today.

Throughout this October and all year long, we work to make prevention possible. This work includes educating communities about environmental exposures, providing resources to individuals, families, and students, supporting research, and advocating for policies that can help create healthier communities.

And yet, there is still so much more work to do.

Every day, people encounter chemicals and environmental exposures through the products they use, the places they live, work, and learn, and the natural environments around them. At MBCC, we believe that addressing breast cancer must include looking beyond the disease itself. We believe we must also address the environmental factors that may contribute to its development and take action to reduce preventable exposures.

Prevention cannot wait until another generation is affected.

This October, we invite you to join us in making breast cancer prevention part of the conversation — not just for one month, but throughout the year.

Please consider making a gift this month to support MBCC’s ongoing work toward a future where fewer people are affected by breast cancer.

Together, we can help change the legacy of breast cancer for our children, our grandchildren, and generations to come.

With deep gratitude,

Cheryl Osimo
