Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) is pleased to share the PFAS on Cape Cod – Connecting Communities with Science for Solutions webinar series with a session focused on PFAS contamination in local drinking water and the associated health concerns—offering insights relevant to other affected regions and researchers working at the intersection of science and public health.
Featured Speakers:
- Laurel Schaider, PhD, Senior Scientist at Silent Spring Institute and a lead researcher with the STEEP Superfund Research Program. Dr. Schaider will present recent findings on PFAS in Cape Cod’s drinking water supplies and the implications for environmental health.
- Cheryl Osimo, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and Cape Cod Coordinator for Silent Spring Institute. Cheryl will discuss community outreach efforts and how residents can reduce exposure and advocate for safer water systems.
- Emily Diamond, PhD (moderator), Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Marine Affairs at the University of Rhode Island and researcher with the STEEP Superfund Research Program. Dr. Diamond studies how science communication shapes public understanding and policy support, with a focus on improving dialogue between scientists, communities, and decision-makers.
The STEEP Superfund Research Program addresses the human health threat of PFAS through interdisciplinary science, developing novel detection techniques, evaluating exposure, and preparing communities for long-term solutions. MBCC is proud to be a community partner for the STEEP Community Engagement Core.
This webinar series provides community members, health professionals, and policymakers with up-to-date research, practical solutions, and an opportunity to engage directly with experts.
