“I support MBCC and it’s culture of prevention. My mother passed away from
breast cancer at age 57. We will never know exactly why she was struck
down by this curse, but perhaps if the next generation is better
educated than the one before, we can wipe out unnecessary diagnoses
and save irreplaceable lives- and families. I need to feel proactive
in the fight against breast cancer in order to honor her.” – Jessica, Boston

Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition is a nonprofit organization based in Massachusetts and is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, EIN 04-3144053. Donations are deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Day after day women, and men, are diagnosed with breast cancer – many with stories much like Jessica’s. In fact, the rate of the disease has increased by 40% over that past 70 years. And Massachusetts has one of the highest rates of the disease in the country.

In 1991, the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) began by demanding answers to the question “What is CAUSING this disease?” And, research has been responding. We now know that over 70-80% of breast cancer diagnoses are not linked to the most commonly associated risks, such as family history, diet, exercise and other lifestyle factors. In fact, a 2010 report from the President’s Cancer Panel indicates that chemical causes of cancer are “grossly underestimated.” A review of the science by Silent Spring Institute highlights at least 216 chemicals linked with breast cancer most commonly found in consumer products, services, and manufacturing.

Unfortunately, only 7% of Non-Governmental Organization breast cancer funding addresses prevention and only 10-11% of federal breast cancer funding focuses on environmental factors. YOU can help change this.

Funding in support of MBCC helps to grow and expand a range of impactful education and community outreach programs, including Let’s Talk Prevention: Reducing Toxic Exposures, MBCC’s webinar series, MBCC’s research video series, and MBCC’s ongoing advocacy work in support of water quality research at the State House.

With your generous contribution, MBCC will continue to come together to advocate for laws that eliminate chemicals linked with breast cancer and to educate women and men about making safer choices at home to reduce exposure to chemicals linked with the disease. Furthermore, we can continue the important work of eliminating racial disparities within the disease.
