EVENT SCHEDULE AND INFORMATION

Hopkinton

Hopkinton State Park
Sat Jun 21, 2008

Hopkinton State Park has hosted our event for 15 years now, since we outgrew our original location at Walden Pond. The park is very large and offers a full range of recreational activities. Plan to come and spend the whole day!

As you enter the park, you will see signs directing you to Against the Tide. There is ample parking on site.

** If you are participating in an event that is later in the morning, you do not have to register until 30 minutes beforehand.

Event Day Schedule

7:30 AM Registration Opens

8:25 Welcome and Warm-up Stretch

8:30 Competitive Swim and Walk events begin!

9:30 Fitness/Recreational Swim begins

10:30 Todd McCullough Kayak event begins

11:00 AM Breakfast & CELEBRATION!!

The 8:30 swim is only open to competitive swimmers. Swimmers wishing to participate in all three events will walk, swim and kayak at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 respectively. Others may walk and swim at 8:30 and 9:30 respectively, walk and kayak at 8:30 and 10:30 respectively, or swim and kayak at 9:30 and 10:30 respectively. The events will not be run as a triathlon, but rather three consecutive events, thus all participants will start all events together.

Description of events:

Competitive Swim
Swimmers participating in the competitive swim must be able to swim a 30-minute mile and have open-water experience. The competitive swim is a timed event, with Certificates of Recognition awarded to the first place male and female swimmers.

Fitness/Recreational Swim
We hold two separate swims to accommodate all of our swimmers. You can sign up for either our casual Fitness/Recreational swim or our more challenging Competitive swim. The Fitness/Recreational Swim is for swimmers of all levels - it is a fun, no-pressure event!  However, it is still important that you have open water swim experience and can safely swim 1 mile on your own.

Kayak Event

Kayaking is the most recent addition to our event and has been a big success!  It provides yet another way to get involved and participate in this amazing morning of fun as we work together to end the epidemic of breast cancer.

The kayak course is set up on the lake and is a 2 mile loop that accommodates beginner to expert kayakers.  Single Kayaks are provided at no cost.  Participants may bring their own kayaks (please be sure to arrive early enough to get unloaded, registered and in the water before 10:30).

Walk
The recreational walk is on nature trails in the park. They are easy trails that are nearby the event site.  They begin and end on the beach where friends and family will be there to see you off and welcome you back!

Nickerson

Nickerson State Park
Sat Aug 16, 2008

The beautiful Nickerson State Park again will be the site for Against The Tide Cape Cod. Nowhere in sight are the sand dunes and salt marshes usually associated with Cape Cod. Instead, you are surrounded by woods that slope down to the banks of eight crystal clear fresh water ponds. Yet, if you walk or bicycle through the woods, you will find no rivers or streams feeding the ponds. These are “kettle ponds,” among more than 300 formed as glaciers retreated from the Cape over 10,000 years ago.

As you enter the park, signs will guide you to Against the Tide. There is ample parking within Nickerson. Your car will either be within close walking distance or we will provide you with easy shuttle service.
