Job Summary:
In collaboration with
the Executive Director, responsible for all programs of the Coalition. The
Program/Outreach Director performs tasks and assignments requiring independence
and self-motivation as well as the ability to work in partnership with the
staff and board of directors.
Position requires exceptional organizational abilities and thorough
knowledge of overall Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition functions, policies
and practices. Public speaking skills are essential.
Position is part time, approx.
20-24 hours, April through August or September (maternity leave.) Salary is
$20-26/hr.
Essential Functions:
Program Development & Supervision
·
Team leader for collaborative effort with
campaign project partners - specifically, the Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow
and other national campaigns.
·
Supervise administrative support staff on
mailings, meetings and appointments in support of collaborative campaigns.
·
With Executive Director, oversee program
development and implementation, including new programs and community meetings.
·
Collaborate w/Executive Director on development
of organizational outreach materials
·
Manage website content and frequent email action
alerts.
·
Participate in and organize conference calls and
face to face meetings.
Legislative Advocacy
·
Assist with AHT lobbying efforts.
·
Support state and national legislative
priorities as directed by board of directors as needed.
Community Engagement/Outreach and Education
·
Organize presentations at community health
centers and other venues and develop and deliver appropriate presentation.
·
Solicit community events/groups to present MBCC
mission and goals.
·
Engage like-minded organizations for
participation in MBCC mission and goals.
·
Engage and organize MBCC membership for
activism.
·
With Executive Director, handle press calls and
media outreach.
·
Organize and manage volunteers for activism.
·
Draft and send email newsletters and alerts to
membership, excellent computer skills required.
·
Assist in preparation of newsletter and drafting
of staff-prepared articles.
Office & Staff Supervision
·
Supervise interns as needed.
·
May assist in training new employees or
volunteers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
·
Excellent communication skills-ability to
communicate effectively orally and in writing and comfortable giving public
presentations.
·
Experience in lobbying and community organizing,
developing campaigns, outreach materials, etc..
·
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to
deal with diverse groups of people.
·
Ability to effectively represent the
Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition’s mission and core values in dealings with
associates and the general public.
·
Excellent computer skills.
·
Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with co-workers and board of directors.
·
Working knowledge of office practices and
procedures and ability to perform a variety of administrative assignments
requiring independent thinking.
Experience
Master’s degree or college degree plus commensurate
experience; at least 2 years experience in a position including outreach,
public speaking, lobbying and program development and evaluation. Must
understand environmental health, women’s health, breast cancer and grassroots
advocacy and organizing. Need strong
interpersonal and public speaking skills .
Independent Action
Duties performed independently. Recommends, designs, and implements controls based on
program objectives. Consults with
ED regarding major policy decisions and organizational concerns.
