Safer Alternatives Bill
This legislation (H 1136, S397), sponsored by Sen. Steve Tolman (D-Brighton) and Rep. Jay Kaufman (D-Lexington), creates an on-going program to evaluate toxic chemicals for feasible safer alternatives and assists businesses to transition from the more toxic to the safer alternative. Federal Policy
Safe Chemicals Act
Legislation, recently filed in the Senate Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and soon to be filed in the House of Representatives, likely by Reps. Bobby Rush (D-IL) and Henry Waxman (D-CA), this legislation seeks to overhaul the 34 year-old Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) by requiring that chemical manufacturers prove that their chemicals are safe and requires reporting of such evidence to the EPA to remain on the market. Safe Cosmetics Act
Legislation to be filed in the House of Representatives, likely by Reps. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Ed Markey (D-MA) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), would give the FDA authority to ensure that personal care products are free of harmful ingredients and that all ingredients in products are disclosed. Ban Poisonous Additives Act (known as BPA Ban Bill)
Legislation to ban the use of Bisphenol-A (BPA) in all reusable food and beverage containers as well as from the lining of cans and other food containers, sponsored by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D – CA) (S. 136) and Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) (H.R. 432).
Endocrine Disruption Prevention Act
This legislation, sponsored by Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) and Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA), develops reliable and reproducible methods of determining if a chemical can disrupt the endocrine system, including the effect on the human body when multiple chemicals are combined.
